They assume a high profile status, and many are household names, but if Frank Darabont took a seat opposite you in Starbucks would you recognise him? Probably not. We know who the great directors are and we are familiar with their work but could we spot them in a crowd? 1) AGE - Most directors acheive legendary status between the ages of 50 to 70. Although there is an abundance of young talent, it is not until this age that a director has secured enough box office success and possibly an Oscar or two to earn them respect as a great director. So keep an eye out for grey.
2) THE BEARD - This is a big part of being a director. Many of the best have adopted this look. It is a sign that a director is too busy creating masterpieces than to waste time shaving.
3) GLASSES - A dedicated director spends most of his time studying movies and fine tuning in the editing room. This takes its toll on the old eyes and is a sure sign.

4) WEIGHT - The non-stop pace of making a movie leaves no room for a healthy lifestyle and the signs are visible on numerous directors.
5) HEADGEAR - For many directors caps, hats and bandanas are common attire for some these items become a part of them.
